Turkeys Earthquake

Unfortunately, today (6 February, 2023) we witnessed the worst disaster as a massive earthquake in Turkey strikes the southern and eastern part of Turkey and north-west Syria with a magnitude of 7.8, which is the second major earthquake since 1939.

In Turkey’s earthquake more than 1,500 people lost their lives so far, 5,383 were injured, and 2,818 buildings were destroyed. So far according to news more than 326 people have died and 1,042 have been injured in Syria, which has already been devastated by more than 11 years of civil war, according to the health ministry. According to news, 147 persons were reported dead in the northwest of Syria, which is controlled by rebels.

The death toll was predicted to rise as rescue teams and locals desperately looked for survivors in the ruins of demolished buildings in cities on both sides of the border.

Earthquake today Turkey happened near the southern and eastern turkish city of Gaziantep, which has a population of roughly 2 million, the earthquake hit at 4.17 am local time (1.17 am GMT) at a depth of about 17.9 km or 11 miles, 150 miles from the Syrian border and 50 miles from the quake’s center of the earthquake in Kahramanmaras, Malatya, Adiyaman, Diyarbakir, Osmaniye, Adana and Hatay.

These cities are pretty far away from Istanbul about 1 hour and 30 minutes by plane and approximately 20 hours by bus. The historic castle of the Gaziantep, an old and spectacular stone building on top of a hill used as a command post during Roman times, was destroyed by the Turkey earthquake. Additionally, there were a few old buildings and a few high-rise blocks were collapsed by this quake.

Metal rods have been scattered over the streets, and entire buildings have been crushed and cars also tumbled down. Heavy damage has also been caused to Gaziantep Castle. In the cities of Adıyaman, Malatya, and Diyarbakır, buildings also collapsed and people fled to the streets in fear.

There are a number of small- and medium-sized cities in the province of Gaziantep that have large refugee populations. Some of these places are really poor. Urban areas tend to be wealthier. However, other regions that have been damaged are comparatively low-income areas.

Besides, Lebanon, Greece, Israel, and the island of Cyprus all experienced earthquakes.

Turkey Earthquake, the 7.8-magnitude earthquake’s epicenter was 24.1 kilometers beneath the surface, 23 kilometers east of Nurdagi in Turkey’s Gaziantep region. A significant aftershock with a magnitude of 7.5 impacted Turkey around 9 hours later, which occurred around 95 kilometers north of the first earthquake.

Earthquake today Turkey is the second largest to hit Turkey since 1939, when an earthquake of the same magnitude killed almost 30,000 people. According to statistics, each year, the world experience less than five strikes of this size earthquake on average, which are really terrible and horrible events.

Earthquake in Turkey has experienced seven earthquakes of magnitude 7.0 or higher in the past 25 years, but Monday’s was the most intense. It’s a very big fault zone, but this is the biggest earthquake they’ve had recently, according to Karl Lang, an assistant professor at Georgia Tech University’s School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences.

Earthquake today Turkey, its southern, eastern and central regions have experienced powerful aftershocks of 6.7 magnitude occurred 32 kilometers northwest of the site of the main earthquake around 11 minutes later. Another, aftershock happened 19 minutes after the original quake with a 5.6-magnitude, was also very strong.

In addition, a winter storm in the area is making the situation worse. This affects hundreds of thousands of individuals. It’s freezing. There is rain because of that roads may be affected, which might affect the access to food, a source of income, and the ability to care for the family and children.

Because near the epicenter of the earthquake, between Kahramanmaras and Gaziantep, entire city blocks lay in devastation beneath the falling snow, causing some of the worst destruction. People will suffer in this region, for example, growing anything including crops, will also be affected. The effects of Turkey’s Earthquake will be felt throughout this region for months and weeks.
