Tour Program
Day 1: Flight to Şanlıurfa and Journey to Mt. Nemrut
- Early morning transfer from your hotel to Istanbul Airport for your flight to Şanlıurfa (approximately 1.5 hours).
- Upon arrival, meet your guide and begin the tour.
- Visit Abraham’s Cave, believed to be the birthplace of Prophet Abraham. The cave is a sacred site, steeped in religious history and spiritual significance.
- Explore Fish Lake (Balıklıgöl), a serene pond surrounded by legend and faith. According to Islamic tradition, this is where Prophet Abraham was thrown into the fire by King Nimrod, but the fire turned into water and the burning logs into fish.
- Stroll through the vibrant Şanlıurfa Bazaar, filled with traditional crafts, textiles, and spices that capture the essence of the region’s culture.
- Drive toward Mt. Nemrut, stopping for a scenic lunch along the way.
- Visit Karakus Tumulus, the burial mound of the Commagene royal family, and marvel at its ancient columned structures.
- Stop by the Septimius Severus Bridge (Cendere Bridge), a remarkable Roman structure built in the 2nd century and one of the oldest still in use.
- Arrive at your hotel near Mt. Nemrut for an overnight stay.
Day 2: Mt. Nemrut Sunrise and Southeastern Turkey Highlights
- Depart early in the morning for the foothills of Mt. Nemrut, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
- Enjoy a short hike (approximately 30 minutes) to the summit to witness a breathtaking sunrise over the Taurus Mountains.
- Explore the Giant Statues of the Gods, including Zeus, Apollo, Hercules, and King Antiochus I, erected in the 1st century BC as part of a royal sanctuary. Learn about the history and symbolism of these monumental figures.
- Descend the mountain and return to your hotel for breakfast.
- Visit Arsemia, the ancient summer capital of the Commagene Kingdom, where you can see fascinating ruins, including reliefs of King Antiochus shaking hands with Hercules.
- Stop at the Atatürk Dam, the largest dam in the Middle East and a key project for energy and irrigation in the region. Admire the engineering marvel and take in the scenic views.
- Return to Şanlıurfa and check into your hotel. Enjoy free time to explore additional sites like the Urfa Castle or relax at your leisure.
Day 3: Free Day and Flight Back to Istanbul
- Enjoy a leisurely breakfast at your hotel.
- Spend the morning exploring Şanlıurfa at your own pace. You can revisit favorite spots, enjoy a relaxing stroll through the city, or shop for unique souvenirs in the bazaar.
- At the arranged time, transfer to Şanlıurfa Airport for your flight back to Istanbul.
- Upon arrival in Istanbul, you will be transferred to your hotel, concluding your memorable journey.
