    Hagia Sophia Church was constructed with the order of Byzantine Empire Justinian. It was the biggest church in the world and built in between 532-537 AD.

    There were 10.000 workers and 100 masters who worked in the construction of this huge church. Marbles used for inner decoration and construction of the church were brought from all over the world, to represent that this was a church for all of humanity.

    It was used as a church for about one thousand years and then became a mosque about five hundred years during the Ottoman Empire. In 1935, M.Kemal Atatürk declared that it should became a museum and today it remains a museum for everyone to visit.

    It is a very popular tourist attraction that you must see during your visits in Istanbul. Please also check closing and opening hours before you plan your visit here.

    It is always busy and you may have to wait a long time in the the line to buy a ticket. If you prefer to use the services of an official tour guide, you can skip the line and learn more with your tour guide explaining the history and everything you need to know about this excellent museum.
